After earning a high school diploma in 1961 and graduating as Valedictorian, Ms. Cade obtained a bachelor's degree in economics from Howard University in 1965 and a J.D. (Doctor of Jurisprudence) from her alma mater in 1968.
After graduation, she joined the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. While with the General Counsel's Office, she distinguished herself in 1971, by arguing the Landmark Sex Discrimination Case, Diaz v. Pan American Airways, Inc. The Supreme Court denied certiorari and upheld the District Court's ruling in EEOC's favor.
The Diaz Case revolutionized the entire airline industry by allowing men as well as women to serve passengers on airlines. Thereafter, the servers' name was changed from Stewardess to Flight Cabinet Attendant.
As an accomplished legal professional, Ms. Cade excelled as an attorney for the Office of General Counsel, the U.S. government and the eponymous Cade and Von Carrington Law Firm. Drawing on her varied experiences and knowledge, she serves as president of Be Financially Independent and Financial Independence for Blacks, whose purposes are to teach Financial Literacy, Financial Independence, and Financial Freedom to Blacks and show them how to build Generational Wealth. Driven to stay up to date with changes in her field, she affiliated with Primerica Financial Services and has pursued further education, earning Series 6 and Series 26 Investment Licenses and is presently studying to take the Series 63 and Series 65 Investment Exams. In addition, she holds Insurance Licenses in over 10 states, Mortgage Licenses in several states and in the 2000's, was Branch Manager for a Mortgage Company in Maryland.
Dedicated to her community, Ms. Cade gives back as the original organizer of the National Coalition of 100 Women in Montgomery County, Maryland, a former board member of the Goodwill Industries, a former secretary for the Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, a retired member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and a former member of the American Arbitration Association's Legal Panel. Throughout her career, she boasts numerous achievements, including becoming the First EEO Director for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the First Federal Women's Program Director for the Department of Agriculture. Additionally, Ms. Cade graduated from law school in the top 10% of her class, was named Women of the Week by the New York Post in 1974 and has earned several awards for outstanding professional performance.
