EASTON, PA, September 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary P. Tomaino has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Following college and early employment with Pfizer-MPM Division, Mr. Tomaino used his biological foundation to move into chemistry and several years later a focus in geology and mineralogy focused on characterizations of synthetic and natural minerals and utilization of various minerals in material applications. As a qualified professional, Mr. Tomaino earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Franklin & Marshall College, a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Lafayette College and a Bachelor of Science in geology from Lafayette College.
In 1979, Mr. Tomaino accepted a position with Pfizer-MPM Division. In 1992, Pfizer Inc. divested the MPM Division that became Minerals Technologies Inc. (MTI). He currently excels as a geoscientist for MTI in the evaluations of various synthetic and natural minerals and their utilization material applications such refractories, ceramics, plastics, steel, paper, geomembranes, pharmaceuticals, building and construction, and regulatory areas.
In this position, Mr. Tomaino specializes in x-ray diffraction and thermal analyses. He also focuses on regulatory issues regarding asbestos and crystalline silica, for which he has developed protocols and conducted industry talks over the years. As an accomplished geoscientist, he has acquired three patents. In particular, Mr. Tomaino's patent for synthetic silicates consists of a green solution that minimizes the amount of carbon dioxide emitted when making glass.
For his efforts in his career, Mr. Tomaino was a two-time recipient of the Henry Krumb Lecturer Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). He was also presented with the Chair Award for his tenure as chairman of the Industrial Minerals-Aggregates Division of the SME in addition to the Robert W. Piekarz Program Chair Award. Throughout his career, he has been incredibly proud to serve as a mentor to newly hired employees. In addition, Mr. Tomaino has applied his expertise in research and development, applied research and development, and all aspects of technical service problem solving, which has equipped the company with the tools to address all of the situations in various markets.
Mr. Tomaino's expertise is also respected world-wide in geology and mineralogy with specific to his analytical and problem-solving capabilities. In order to remain aware of developments in his field, he maintains his professional affiliation with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the American Ceramic Society (ACerS). He has attributed the professional success in his career to his drive to learn and educate himself, as well as the many opportunities that he has received based on the value of his work. Looking toward the future, Mr. Tomaino plans to continue achieving success in his current position while mentoring young professionals to maintain the legacy and capabilities of the company's analytical testing laboratory.
