NEW YORK, NY, September 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Angeles Delgado has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Over the course of her social services career, Ms. Delgado has worked to serve vulnerable populations, including immigrants, people living with HIV/AIDS, people who are homeless and those with substance abuse and mental issues. Ms. Delgado received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Brooklyn College and a master's degree in social work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, while working full time at CAMBA and raising a family.
CAMBA, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides various social services in New York City. Ms. Delgado began as an ESL student within a CAMBA program. She was often pulled out of the class to translate for Spanish-speaking clients. Through joining the Vista Volunteers of America program, she worked as a Spanish translator. Her employment at CAMBA began in 1987 as part of an immigration outreach program that worked with undocumented individuals on legalizing their status through the Amnesty Law of 1982. Because of this law, the organization was able to assist undocumented immigrants to obtain their Green Cards and become legal residents. Over the years, she has held many positions, such as Case Manager for Eviction Prevention, Homeless Re-housing, HIV/AIDS program, Program Director, Vice President and currently serves as Senior Vice President of CAMBA, Inc.
In her position, Ms. Delgado oversees a 722-unit housing complex for individuals with HIV/AIDS, substance abuse issues and mental health diagnoses. She also directs several other transitional housing congregate facilities, as well as prevention and supportive services contracts. Ms. Delgado also oversees a food and nutrition program that provides meals for HIV-positive individuals and nutritional counseling, as well as weekly food pantry and monthly food vouchers. She oversees CAMBA's supportive counseling for HIV-positive individuals and a case management program for undocumented clients who have limited resources. The organization also runs Project Accept LGBTQ+, which utilizes stories of acceptance from supportive parents and families of LGBTQ youth and teens to change underlying causes of HIV infection amongst this highly at-risk group through community workshops and social marketing campaigns. Through her involvement with HIV prevention contracts, Ms. Delgado has worked extensively to end the AIDS epidemic. She is currently involved with COVID-19 equity partner engagement, which promotes vaccinations in various communities through outreach and educational activities.
Throughout her career, Ms. Delgado has been most proud of her journey as an immigrant. She was born and raised in a small town in the Galicia region of Spain. As a child raised by parents that were small farmers, she learned to work hard as children needed to help on the farm after school. When she immigrated to United States, she worked hard to achieve her goals. Although she experienced challenges and language barriers, she persevered and later used her skills to provide essential services to others in need. Looking toward the future, once she retires, Ms. Delgado would like to become a consultant to social services agencies.
