Mr. Chaaya is the co-partner and director at Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) in Paris, a premier architectural design and consultancy firm that was founded in 1981. Comprised of approximately 130 architects and additional staff members, the firm's portfolio of work includes high-end design projects throughout France and Italy, as well as in the U.S., Canada and London, among other locations. Some of his work currently includes serving as the partner-in-charge of the Phase One of The New Columbia University Manhattanville Campus in New York, the Eighty-Seven Park Project in Miami, Florida, The Broad Contemporary Art Museum and the Resnick Pavilion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (LACMA) in Los Angeles, California, the SGBL Bank Headquarters and The Beirut City History Museum in Lebanon, and the Pathé Palace Headquarters in Paris. Mr. Chaaya is also overseeing the University Hospital Campus Grand Paris Nord in France as the director and partner-in-charge.
As one of the artistic directors at RPBW, Mr. Chaaya is responsible for designing his own projects and collaborating with clients while also supervising his team and their projects. Additionally, he ensures that scheduling and budget goals are met and that company growth strategies are always being implemented to acquire new businesses. Hired by RPBW in 1987 shortly after graduating from college, Mr. Chaaya advanced to the position of partner in 1997 and a board member in 2014.
Renowned for his expertise, Mr. Chaaya has become a prolific speaker over the years, having lectured in France, Italy, the United States and Lebanon. Born in Lebanon, Mr. Chaaya has been a big supporter of Anta Akhi, France, for which volunteers work together to improve the lives of young adults living with disabilities. He is also an honorary member of the Lebanese Green Buildings Council (LGBC), a non-profit, governmental organization that hopes to establish and encourage sustainability practices during the construction process. Mr. Chaaya notably earned a Master of Architecture from Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in 1984.
Recognized by his alma mater, Mr. Chaaya was designated as a Distinguished Alumnus. He was named Patron of the Class of Young Architects in 2017. Soon thereafter, in 2018, Mr. Chaaya was again honored for his career and professional path.
