PONCA CITY, OK, September 27, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mariann Braten-Hall has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After 14 years of teaching special and elementary students with Ponca City Public Schools, Dr. Braten-Hall was recruited by Northwestern Oklahoma State University as a full-time instructor of education in 2015. An expert in methods, pedagogy, and cultural competence she teaches 12 hours per week and has since been promoted to an assistant professor in 2020. She is also active on several committees at the aforementioned university, including the graduate committee, service-learning committee, and diversity committee. Prior to earning her degrees, Dr. Braten-Hall was a special education assistant at Livets Ord Christian School in Uppsala, Sweden from 1998 to 1999, and a nurse assistant at Kronparken Sjukhem, a nursing home in Uppsala, from 1989 to 1998.
Attributing her success in academia to the tremendous support that she has received from her colleagues and other educators in the field, Dr. Braten-Hall believes in the importance of doing what is best for her students. Committed to making a difference and helping students to develop their strengths has been an invaluable experience and opportunity. Besides teaching, Dr. Braten-Hall has notably presented at various conferences, including before the Oklahoma Association for Colleges for Teacher Education and Northern Oklahoma College for Autism Awareness Month.
Through her community, Dr. Braten-Hall is an active member and licensed minister of Assemblies of God. She served as a section leader at Ponca City Assembly of God, taught adult bible classes at Ponca City Assembly and Morrison Assembly of God, and attended mission trips to an orphanage in Thailand and various locations in Ukraine and Estonia, among other volunteer opportunities. She has also led bible groups in Sweden and provided tutoring services for free at Anderson Elementary in Oklahoma. Dr. Braten-Hall is a faculty advisor for the Oklahoma Aspiring Educators Association. She has also contributed to the organizing committee of the Oklahoma Service-Learning Conference for Higher Education.
Dr. Braten-Hall earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education at Oral Roberts University in 2000 and a Master of Education in educational leadership at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 2012. She later returned to Oral Roberts University, obtaining a Doctor of Education in higher education in 2020. Her doctoral dissertation was on cultural competence in education. She holds certifications in elementary and mild to moderate disabilities education and as an elementary school principal in the state of Oklahoma. Additionally, Dr. Braten-Hall has completed numerous continuing education courses and training in her field.
