Driven by the desire to save energy and exert his independence in the development of turnkey projects, Mr. Mehrotra earned a mechanical engineering degree from Banaras Engineering College in India. Following this accomplishment, he immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he joined Sargent & Lundy Engineers, where he worked in such projects as the LaSalle County Nuclear Station and the Laredo Unit 3 for Central Power & Light. During this time, Mr. Mehrotra earned a master's degree in management from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
In 1980, Mr. Mehrotra became the senior vice president of Energy Resources+Planning Inc. He subsequently established General Energy Corporation, which he founded with the intention of focusing on energy efficiency and environmentally conscious designs, as well as renewable energy generation. Through their collective knowledge, considerable education, trust, integrity, initiative, teamwork, respect and customer satisfaction, General Energy Corporation meets and exceeds the needs of its clients.
Throughout the span of his career, Mr. Mehrotra also gained valuable expertise in the field as the founder of Grant Park Wind Farm in Kankakee County, Illinois. Through his numerous positions in the industry, he has had the honor of working on a wide range of projects, including the Central Boiler Plant and Onsite Power Generation Options Study for Argonne National Laboratory, the Central Boiler Plant and Steam Distribution Study for Case Western Reserve University, the Chicago Industrial Rebuild Program and the DOE matching funds institution conservation program for the University of Chicago.
Well qualified in his field, Mr. Mehrotra is a certified geothermal designer through the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a professional engineer in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Association of Energy Engineers and the American Society of Heating and Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Outside of his work, Mr. Mehrotra devotes himself to the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy.
Due to his numerous achievements, Mr. Mehrotra has been recognized many times. To wit, he received the 1984 ASHRAE Energy Award, the Illinois chapter's Energy Design Award and Excellence in Engineering Award in 1991 and 2000, respectively, and a Thomas H. Madigan Special Merit Award from the Madden Mental Center in 1992. Additionally, he earned the 2013 ASHRAE National-Level Technology Award for a Category 1 Commercial Building, and a 2019 ConEd Energy Efficiency Program Custom Innovator Award for his work with customers in helping to identify and implement custom energy savings measures. Looking toward the future, Mr. Mehrotra hopes to continue his pursuits in developing energy efficiency engineering projects.
