After adopting a child with intellectual, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, Mr. Wagner realized how inaccessible quality necessary services were to attain and decided to enter this field in order to make changes for the better. In 1996, he became the third President & CEO of Rainbow Acres, a nonprofit and privately funded organization that specialized in working with nearly 100 individuals annually, with disabilities ranging in age from 18-85 years of age. As the President & CEO he also served as spokesperson for the organization, nurtured major donors in their philanthropic endeavors in support of the mission, vision and values of Rainbow Acres. After 25 years of service, Mr. Wagner will become the founder and President of Sedona Logo Gardens, an affiliate of Rainbow Acres in Sedona, Arizona with a focus on serving adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Prior to serving Rainbow Acres, Mr. Wagner gained valuable experience as Director of Development at Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma; Green Lake Conference Center, Green Lake, Wisconsin; Alderson-Broaddus University, Philippi, West Virginia; Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma; and Oklahoma Science Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in religious education from the University of Sioux Falls in 1968 and a Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester, Bexley Hall, Crozier Theological Seminary in 1972. Driven to remain aware of changes in his fields of endeavors, he served on the Board of American Baptist Homes and Caring Ministries and served on the EAGLE Accreditation Commission of the United Methodist Association for Health and Welfare Ministries. Rainbow Acres has been accredited by the EAGLE Commission since 2004 and received its EAGLE Award for the Fine Arts Painting program.
In recognition of his professional achievements, Rainbow Acres received the Spirit of Sedona Award in 2015, employees received Nurse of the Year and Caregiver of the Year awards from the Arizona ALFA, and three Shining Star Awards for Clavinova Connection, Fine Arts Painting and Executive of the Year in 2021.
