Mr. Proud is a seasoned manufacturing executive and expert in supply chain management whose career began in the late 1960s as a systems analyst for the Burroughs Corporation in California. Over the years, he gained increasing responsibilities and opportunities with leading organizations, including the Xerox Corporation in Los Angeles, California, between 1974 (first 2 years as a contracted/captured consultant) and 1986, with which he excelled as a regional consultant and educator, then as a customer service manager at Arista Manufacturing (a Xerox company), manager national customer education at Xerox Computer Services and manager just-in-time/lean manufacturing.
Mr. Proud subsequently became the president of his own business, Proud Corporation, in Palm Desert, California, (initially in Yorba Linda, CA) in 1987. Additionally, he began serving as a principal educator and consultant for Oliver Wight Americas Inc. (headquartered in New London, NH) out of the Portland, Oregon's west coast office, in 1988. Oliver Wight International is an international educating and consulting company that provides clients with various change management, business processes and technologies plus tools to better support their overall businesses.
Throughout his career, Mr. Proud enjoyed collaborating with several large companies, from Lockheed Martin and Boeing to Weyerhauseur and Starbucks. He was also able to attend many events with leaders in the industry, politicians, and other successful professionals. A very rewarding profession, the Oliver Wight International and manufacturing industry has provided Mr. Proud with endless opportunity (he has educated and consulted throughout the world as well as throughout the USA) and professional rewards (numerous companies under his leadership and coaching have implemented best practice standards) for more than 50 years.
A renowned speaker in his field, Mr. Proud has lectured and done keynote addresses worldwide at seminars on an array of topics such as supply chain management, integrated business planning, master planning and scheduling, material/capacity management, detailed production/supplier scheduling, and lean manufacturing. He is also an avid writer, having contributed highly praised books as author and co-author, including "The Proven Path," 2nd edition (3rd edition written and planned for publication in 2022), "Master Scheduling: A Practical Guide to Competitive Manufacturing," (1st through 3rd editions), and "Master Planning and Scheduling: An Essential Guide to Competitive Manufacturing," 4th edition (publication date is 12/2/2021). Among other writing contributions, Mr. Proud has had numerous articles published in scholarly journals and professional publications.
An alumnus of California Polytechnic State University, Mr. Proud earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in physical education in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam (three deployments) between 1965 and 1968, rising to the rank of lieutenant junior grade. Continuing his education, Mr. Proud acquired a Master of Science in management sciences with a specialty in management systems and information technology at West Coast University in 1973. He is a certified lifetime fellow in production and inventory management through the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), formerly the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS).
Mr. Proud is a former APICS member (20 years plus service) and former Orange County chapter president of the Association for Supply Chain Management (formerly APICS), vice-president programs, executive advisor, and member of his chapter's board of directors. During his years as an APICS member, Mr. Proud was honored to serve as its chairperson at its 1995 international conference (served as APICS international conference committee member in 1987 and 1992 preparing for his role as 1995 chairperson as well as being a member of the APICS certification committee for 3 years).
A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 23rd and 24th editions of Who's Who in the West. Adding to his Who's Who accomplishments, Mr. Proud was recognized early in his career for his professional contributions to the field of business and operations excellence by Who's Who in California along with receiving the Golden State Award for those professional accomplishments. Over Mr. Proud's 35 plus years educating and consulting with many well-known companies, Mr. Proud saw many of these businesses raise their standards to what Oliver Wight calls Class A in Business Excellence, most likely his greatest reward throughout his professional career!
