Dr. Vipulanandan subsequently began his career as a trainee at the State Engineering Corporation in Sri Lanka in 1978.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Vipulanandan was employed in various capacities, including as an instructor, a teaching assistant, and an assistant professor at various colleges. Additionally, he served as the chairman of the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Houston. Since 1994, he has maintained involvement as the director of the Center for Innovative Grouting Materials and Technology at the Cullen College of Engineering of the University of Houston. Additionally, since 1995, Dr. Vipulanandan has thrived as a professor of civil engineering at the Cullen College of Engineering.
An expert in his field, Dr. Vipulanandan has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and is the author of "Smart Cement: Development, Testing, Modeling and Real-Time Monitoring." The holder of a U.S. patent, he has developed various methods that have contributed greatly to advancements in his field, including a technique to detect and quantify corrosion in metals and non-metallic materials. Dr. Vipulanandan also cultivated the "Vipulanandan Rheological Model" to characterize all types of fluids, which remains in use around the world.
As a testament to his work in engineering, Dr. Vipulanandan has been presented with numerous accolades. Among them, he was the recipient of the Fluor Daniel Faculty Excellence Award, which is the highest award given by the Cullen College of Engineering. Likewise, Dr. Vipulanandan has been presented with the Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award, the Hawley Award for Best Paper and several other awards for his research.
