After taking a legal studies class while in high school, Mr. Odom became interested in business and the law. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer systems from Baruch College in 1988 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the St. John's University's School of Law in 1991. While in law school, he gained valuable expertise in the field as an intern with the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Upon graduating with his law degree, he was admitted to practice law in the State of New York. During the early years of his career, he served as a hearing officer for the New York City Board of Education and also worked as an associate attorney at a prominent New York City law firm.
Over the years, while working in various legal positions, Mr. Odom honed his skills to become a recognized trial attorney focusing on the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and estate administration. The clients represented include the families of wrongful death victims, brain-damaged infants, people injured due to negligent surgical treatment, personal injury accident victims, individuals injured due to negligent nursing home care, and individuals involved in estate litigation. Drawing upon his considerable knowledge, he has excelled as an attorney and has represented clients before various courts in the State of New York, including, the Civil Court of the City of New York, the Surrogate's Court, the Supreme Court of the State of New York, the New York Court of Claims, and the Federal U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Mr. Odom has also been admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C. Presently, Mr. Odom serves as Of Counsel to a New York City law firm and as the Principal Attorney of his own private practice.
Additionally, Mr. Odom formerly served as an adjunct professor at several New York City colleges, where he taught courses in civil litigation, legal research and writing, torts, trusts and estates, and other legal subjects. In 2020, he authored the book, "Take Time with Your Mind: An Essay on Treasuring One of Your Most Precious Commodities."
An expert in his field, Mr. Odom aligns himself with the American Association of Justice and the National Trial Lawyers Top 100. Alongside his legal work, he gives back to his community as a minister and musician with the New Beginning Church of God and as founder of Take Time with Your Mind.
