His patents are for "Cellulose Gum (CMC) as an Industrial Polymer Filter Aid" and "Dual Injection of Two Polymeric Filtration Aids for Gypsum Removal from Phosphoric Acid." Moreover, he is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers. Mr. Irwin was also active for more than a decade as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
Aside from his primary professional pursuits, Mr. Irwin is involved in various charitable organizations. For 15 years, he served on the board of the Lakeland Runners Club and was president 2005-07. He also served as a church elder and has been on multiple mission trips to Haiti and Mexico.
In 1980, he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Florida Southern College. In the future, Mr. Irwin intends to retire from his corporate position and focus more on consulting work.
