Dr. Ayad K. Ali studies the effectiveness and safety of medications, medical devices and vaccines.

A pharmacist by training, Dr. Ali developed a passion for patient safety, which encouraged him to expand upon his knowledge of the regulatory aspects of the field. After earning a master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance from the University of Florida, he became a Fulbright scholar and completed postdoctoral training in pharmacoepidemiology at Eli Lilly and Company's Office of Risk Management and Pharmacoepidemiology. Over the next nine years, Dr. Ali gained valuable expertise with Eli Lilly and Company and served as an affiliate lecturer at the University of Florida's College of Pharmacy.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Ali has developed research interests in the development and application of novel methods in the design and analysis of post-authorization safety studies, as well as data structure and analysis standardization approaches for rapid-cycle drug safety research. Reflecting his high level of expertise, he has also written numerous articles and books on drug safety and pharmacoepidemiologic methods. Presently, Dr. Ali channels his considerable experience into his work as senior director of scientific research at Aetion Inc., where he studies the effectiveness and safety of medications, medical devices and vaccines.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Ali aligns himself with the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology, the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, the Society for Epidemiologic Research, the American College of Epidemiology, and the International Advisory Council of the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology. Outside of his work, he is a volunteer pilot with the Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ali aims to expand his leadership role and accrue greater renown in the industry.
