ALEXANDRIA, VA, October 27, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ronald D. Vitiello is included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ronald D. Vitiello began his 34 years of government service with the U.S. Border Patrol in Laredo, Texas, entering duty with Class 174 in 1985. Beginning as a field agent, his integrity to the mission and the people who answer its calling led Vitiello to numerous leadership positions, including Chief Patrol Agent in Swanton, Vermont and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, as well as a key role in the unification of CBP and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Ever committed to his fellow agents, his advocacy shepherded to passage a pay reform package through Congress in 2015. In 2017 President Donald J. Trump appointed Ronald Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol. Under Vitiello's leadership, the U.S. Border Patrol oversaw a headquarters strengthening of the chain of command and the revision of the use of force policy while keeping operations transparent in a time of great change. Still in his first year as Chief, Ronald developed a human capital project that raised employee satisfaction nearly 20%. After 33 years of service with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Ronald took an appointment as CBP's Acting Deputy Commissioner. In that role, he closely assisted the Commissioner in overseeing 60,000 employees, managing a budget of over $13 billion and ensuring the effectiveness of CBP's efforts to protect national security while promoting economic prosperity. The year 2016 honored Mr. Vitiello with a Mission Award from the Government Technology & Services Coalition, an association of private companies developing strategies for national border protection.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen appointed Mr. Vitiello as the acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in June 2018. During that time, he managed 20,000 officers, special agents, attorneys and mission support professionals, operating with a budget of over $7 billion and engaging with interagency partners and local officials to protect national security while promoting economic prosperity. During his time with ICE he received the Presidential Rank Award, which honors high-performing senior career employees for sustained extraordinary accomplishment. In addition, Mr. Vitiello accepted a Public Service Award from the Lido Civic Club of Washington.
With the support of his family, Ronald retired, concluding more than three decades of public service in April 2019. Since then, he established a consulting firm RD Vitiello, LLC, ably positioned to assist clients by providing vast experience and expertise in border security, strategies, international trade, and organizational leadership. In October 2020 Vitiello accepted a role as DHS strategist and planner at Axon Enterprises, a company that produces innovative technology and devices for law enforcement and the public meant to protect life and preserve truth.
Mr. Vitiello was initially drawn to his profession because he wished to contribute to the country that provided his family numerous opportunities. Among the many highlights of his career, he is particularly proud of receiving the Presidential Rank Award. In the coming years, Mr. Vitiello will continue to provide his expertise to the team at Axon Federal and tirelessly advocate for his former federal colleagues and for informed and smart border and immigration policies.
