Recognized as a leading advocate for blood donation, Mr. Mainali has achieved international acclaim for donating blood 200 times over the course of more than three decades. In addition to 14 states of the United States, he has donated blood in 17 countries in six continents, including Nepal, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi and Kenya. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he donated blood and platelets 22 times. Mr. Mainali has also helped garner blood donations from more than 15,000 individuals by organizing hundreds of blood drive programs all over the world.
Mr. Mainali started to donate blood in 1987 and began his cross-country blood donation advocacy movement in 1990, when he witnessed a critically ill woman who didn't receive blood on time and her husband was not aware of the life-saving capabilities of blood donation. He subsequently established the Blood Donors Association of Nepal and he continues to thrive as the founder of the International Nepalese Blood Donors. From 2009 until 2013, Mr. Mainali found further success as the president of the Blood Donors of America.
In recognition of Mr. Mainali's invaluable contributions as a blood donor and advocate, the Town of Oyster Bay on Long Island, New York, officially proclaimed December 22nd as "World Blood Donor Arjun Mainali Day" in 2019. He had previously been honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, as well as the Leo of the Year Award from Lions Clubs International. In the coming years, Mr. Mainali intends to further his mission of encouraging at least 1% of the individuals he encounters through his global travels to recognize the urgent need for blood donation.
