Ms. Tennyson initially obtained an Associate of Arts in liberal arts and sciences from the University of Minnesota in 1979. She continued her education with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in management and operations in 1981 from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. Ms. Tennyson subsequently accrued postgraduate certificates in business excellence from the Columbia Business School and in executive and organizational coaching from Teachers College at Columbia University from 2019 to 2020.
Ms. Tennyson further served as a financial services advisor for North Star Resource Group in St. Paul from 1981 to 1983 and a financial reporting analyst for Control Data Corporation in Edina from 1983 to 1986. From 1986 to 2018, she made an impact as the chief operating officer for Michaud Cooley Erickson, one of the largest mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firms in the United States. Ms. Tennyson was additionally active as the chief human resources officer with the Wayside Women's Treatment Center, a leading addiction treatment center in Edina, from 2020 to 2021.
From 2018 to 2021, Ms. Tennyson has excelled as a leadership, business and entrepreneurial coach, working with professionals on leadership behaviors and business strategies. In these positions, she has been affiliated with BetterUp and Torch in San Francisco, AceUp in Boston, Ezra in London, UK and The Bailey Group, Finnovation Lab and Capitalize Your Humanity in Minneapolis. Moreover, Ms. Tennyson has garnered certifications as an associate certified coach (ACC) by the International Coaching Federation, a Columbia coaching certified professional (3CP) by Columbia University and a senior certified professional (SHRM·SCP) by the Society for Human Resource Management. She also is certified in EQ-I 2.0/360, Hogan, NBI, and Predictive Index assessments.
Ms. Tennyson has been recognized as an Outstanding LGBTQ Graduate by the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business. She was also honored with a 50 Over 50 Disruptor Award from AARP and COMPASS. She considers her most notable achievement to have been her gender transition at age 57, which inspired her to begin working with behavioral authenticity as her area of expertise.
