MAHTOMEDI, MN, November 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dale A. Johnson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Johnson obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University (ISU) in 1960 to 1963, respectively. He subsequently worked for the 3M Company, a multinational conglomerate, from 1962 to 1997 in various capacities including as director of engineering and as a director of manufacturing. As part of one responsibility, Mr. Johnson maintained global oversight for engineers in 3M plants worldwide, and consulted with staff serving various plants throughout the United States and internationally.
During his time at 3M, Mr. Johnson established the 3M St. Paul East Side Site employee volunteer program. Likewise, he managed 3M's St. Paul East Side Site outreach program and initiated the "Stuff for Schools" program, which supplied school supplies to over 4,500 needy children. His community activities earned Mr. Johnson a day in his honor, which was proclaimed by the mayor of St. Paul in 1996.
Following his retirement, Mr. Johnson assisted in the establishment of Mahtomedi's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Engineering Leadership programs. The district was the first to employ the Digital Fabrication Laboratory, which was first developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Mr. Johnson has been instrumental in encouraging young women to enter STEM fields by establishing the Engel Fund alongside his mother, Kathryn Engel, for mechanical engineering scholarships at ISU.
Among Mr. Johnson's many honors are his recognitions as an Outstanding Young Alumnus at ISU, a Minnesota Jaycees Outstanding Man of the Year, and the 3M Community Volunteer Award. He remains involved in numerous board and volunteer organizations that support education, community development and outdoor recreational activities. Throughout the course of his professional journey, Mr. Johnson is most proud to have successfully led his team of engineers in automating the production of Scotch tape, one of 3M's best-selling products. Additionally, he is gratified to have managed a 3M manufacturing site in Italy for two years, and to have worked in 40 countries worldwide.
