After earning a Master of Theology and Master of Divinity from Saint Vincent de Paul Major Seminary in 1978, Monsignor Boddie was ordained a priest in 1978. He is pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church Jacksonville, Florida Monsignor James R. Boddie, Jr. was notably designated a Monsignor as a Chaplain to Pope Francis in 2021.
Dedicating his time to several charities, Monsignor Boddie was a member of the Mary L. Singleton Foundation Inc. and presently a member of the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment. He has also served as a board member for the Warren P. Monsignor Boddie became involved in the priesthood after realizing it was his calling when he was in the third grade, having been inspired by the priests in his school. He considers his most notable achievement as his designation as the first African American ordained a priest in the State of Florida. Monsignor Boddie is still active in full-time pastoral work and continues his efforts as an active member of the diocese for community work and charitable efforts.
