Dr. Berko obtained a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences in 2004, after which he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ghana in 2008. After immigrating to the United States, he continued his education in 2013 with a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore. Well qualified in his field, Dr. Berko holds certifications in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
In Ghana, Dr. Berko served as a house officer and medical officer from 2008 to 2012 with the Volta River Authority Hospital, 37 Military Teaching Hospital, Tema General Hospital and Raphal Medical Center. He thereupon worked as a clinical research assistant with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine between 2012 and 2013 and a medical resident with Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore from 2013 until 2016.
As a physician hospitalist and clinical instructor with Apogee Physicians in 2016, Dr. Berko performed physical examinations, supervised medical residents and provided nonsurgical procedures for the critically ill. He provided medical on-site supervision and oversight as a hospitalist nocturnist from 2016 to 2018 with the University of Maryland Medical System. Since 2018, Dr. Berko has provided superior care as the owner of Omninoct Medics LLC in the Baltimore region, where he admits and manages patients for both the hospitalist service and the private attending staff, provides medical consulting services on existing medical, surgical and psychiatric patients and performs minor medical and surgical procedures.
In 2016, Dr. Berko established the Berko Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding and otherwise providing support for medical school students whose mothers are battling breast cancer. He was inspired to become a physician after his mother struggled to pay for her own cancer treatments and her son's medical school education on a public schoolteacher's pension. Through sacrifice and commitment, she found ways to meet payment schedules before her tragic passing in 2006.
Among his career accomplishments, Dr. Berko is most proud to have founded Omninoct Medics LLC, thus fulfilling his passion in entrepreneurship, as well as medicine. Looking toward the future, he plans to engage more fully in academia and become a professor.
