When she was enrolled in high school, Ms. LaLima recognized her affinity for working with children. Further realizing that there were few people who could connect with children with autism, she decided to pursue a career in speech pathology. She subsequently obtained a bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from Adelphi University in 2013. Soon thereafter, Ms. LaLima earned a master's degree in speech-language pathology from Hunter College in 2015.
Ms. LaLima is a certified teacher of students with speech and language disabilities and has earned a certificate of clinical competence in speech language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Since 2015, she has worked as a speech language pathologist for the New York City Department of Education in Staten Island. In her present role, Ms. LaLima provides therapy to children, collaborates with parents and teachers to target areas in which students need help, creates individualized lesson plans and was part of a group of educators that formed an equity team designed to find books that include children with autism and are inclusive of all races, cultures and genders within different curriculums of the school.
Prior to securing her current position, Ms. LaLima garnered experience as a graduate clinician with the New York City Department of Education. She also served as a speech intern with the Veterans Affairs Hospital in New York. Notably, Ms. LaLima was presented with a Student Leadership Award from Hunter College in 2015.
