Dr. Comizzoli is a retired physicist who worked throughout New Jersey for more than 40 years. Well regarded for his considerable impact on the field, he is best known for developing methods and technologies for the improvement of the reliability of integrated circuits. After completing his graduate work at Princeton, he began a successful career with RCA Laboratories in Princeton in 1966 as a member of its technical staff and later as the manager of quality assurance at the RCA Solid State Technology Center in Somerville between 1979 and 1981. Dr. Comizzoli subsequently joined Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill and Holmdel, where he was named as a technical supervisor in 1988. Additionally, he spent another six years in the field as a scientist for Qusion Corporation and Medeikon Corporation.
While working in a full-time capacity, Dr. Comizzoli distinguished himself for four years as a member of the Montgomery Township board of adjustment between 1989 and 1993. In recognition of his prominent career in physics, he is an elected Fellow and former division chairperson of the Electrochemical Society and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Likewise, Dr. Comizzoli is a past board director of the Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni and a past president of the Sigma Pi Sigma chapter at Boston College.
As a seasoned scientist, Dr. Comizzoli secured 15 patents in his field. Some of his many accomplishments during his tenure have included contributing to the development of InP lasers and InGaAsP photo-diodes, developing methods for detecting microscopic defects in insulating films, and assessing the effects of surface ionic charge on high voltage integrated circuits. Dr. Comizzoli also contributed to various peer reviewed journal articles and co-edited the 1999 book "Corrosion and Reliability of Electronic Materials and Devices."
Dr. Comizzoli developed an interest in physics during high school when the Soviet Union launched the Sputnik satellite. He also drew greatly from the influence of his parents, who urged him to do well in school. He served in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) for two years while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in physics at Boston College, from which he graduated, summa cum laude, in 1962. Dr. Comizzoli subsequently attained a Master of Art and a Doctor of Philosophy in physics at the prestigious Princeton University in 1964 and 1967, respectively.
Dr. Comizzoli received a Superior Cadet Ribbon from the ROTC at Boston College in 1960. He later received a Callinan Award from the Electrochemical Society and two Outstanding Achievement Awards from RCA Laboratories. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Comizzoli has been cited in the 24th edition of Who's Who in the East.
