Mr. Masroor's first venue, Afghan Bistro, opened its doors in Springfield, Virginia in 2015. It has since become quite popular for its modern take on authentic Afghan cuisine, featuring an assortment of entrees that date back to the pre-Soviet invasion era which was the Kingdom of Afghanistan. Mr. Masroor's restaurants have received recognition among the 100 Best Restaurants for 2018 and 2019 by the Washingtonian, ranked #3 overall best restaurant in the continental United States on Yelp, and was recognized by top food critic Tom Sietsema from The Washington Post as one of his favorites. They also received multiple Diner's Choice Awards by OpenTable.
Each of Mr. Masroor's three bistros focus on providing the traditional Afghan hospitality, for which they are so renowned. They also house a casual atmosphere filled with a full beer and wine menu for patrons to enjoy. By educating and promoting his food and the culture of his people, it is Mr. Masroor's hope that people can appreciate what he has to offer. Mr. Omar Masroor is the son of Kamal and Rohia Masroor, siblings to Mustafa and Hawa Masroor, spouse to Sofia Masroor and father to Taliha, Iman, Zainab, Zakriah and Gabrael. Mr. Masroor was fortunate to escape his country to Germany as a refugee alongside his mother and brother in 1979. Three years later, he and his family were sponsored by a church in the U.S. and began what would become the rest of their lives as Americans.
