Renowned for his exceptional contributions in the field, he was designated as the Mary Ellen Beck-Wohl chair in pulmonology medicine during his tenure at the aforementioned hospital in 2007. Moreover, he has found success as an associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School since 2007. Previously, Dr. Visner worked at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a physician between 2005 and 2007 and at the University of Florida in pediatric pulmonology from 1989 to 2005.
As an esteemed physician and researcher, Dr. Visner has received numerous grants from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He has also disseminated his findings by authoring and co-authoring nearly 100 articles for peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the American Journal of Physiology and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Visner is additionally active as a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Transplantation Society, the International Pediatric Transplant Association and the International Society of Heart Lung Transplant.
Dr. Visner initially earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry at Aquinas College in 1978 prior to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University in 1981. Subsequently completing an internship at Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital and Columbus Children's Hospital, a residency in pediatrics at Columbus Children's Hospital, and a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, he garnered his board certification in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology from the American Board of Pediatrics and his license to practice medicine in the state of Massachusetts. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Visner has been highlighted in the 70th edition of Who's Who in America.
