As a young man, Mr. Young was inspired by his grandfather, John Archie Young Sr., a machinist in the oil and gas industry, as well as his father, Warren Young Sr. and his uncle Archie Young Jr., both of whom are architects. Driven to follow in their footsteps, he began building a foundation in the field. While working as a crew supervisor for J.O.A.T Construction Ltd., he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University's College of Architecture. Subsequently, Mr. Young operated as the owner of Lumber "Jack" Services and as the crew supervisor for McKinney Construction Company while furthering his education towards a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston-Victoria.
Over the years, Mr. Young gained valued expertise in architecture, business, engineering and education in various roles with Victoria College, Young/McCoy Architects, Balusek-Frankson & Associates Engineers, the University of Houston-Victoria, A & W Machine & Supply Co., Young Architects Inc. the Association of Builders & Contractors Merit Shop, the National Council for Construction Education & Research and Young Enterprises – Design Studio. Drawing upon years of expertise, he currently excels as a coach for the CBC Cougar Powerlifting Club at Coastal Bend College, where he also serves as a professor of business technology and of drafting & design. Furthermore, Mr. Young has become a certified personal trainer (CPT), through the American Fitness Professionals Association, a professional building designer (PBD), through the Texas Institute of Building Design (TIBD) and American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) and a club coach through the United States Association of Powerlifting.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Young is affiliated with the Texas A&M Association of Former Students, the American Fitness Professionals Association, the American Institute of Building Design and the Texas Institute of Building Design. In addition, he continues to maintain a small practice of designing fine homes for clients through his firm, Young Enterprises – Design Studio. In a career filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of being a conference speaker at the Texas Institute of Building Design. He has garnered two Powerlifting World Records from the National Athlete Strength Association (NASA Powerlifting), of which he generously shares his powerlifting knowledge and training expertise while training students for powerlifting competition when coaching the team for the CBC Cougar Powerlifting Club. Throughout the years, graduates from the A.A.S. Drafting & Design program have achieved employment in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction & Manufacturing (AECM) industry. In 2008, they were able to place 90 percent of their graduates with 3-4 oil & gas engineering firms in the Houston area, of which they became piping designers for designing off-shore rigs, petro-chemical plants and refineries. Additionally, countless CBC graduates fulfill roles as CAD technicians, architectural and civil designers and piping designers throughout the South Texas region, all formed by a solid foundation of learning from Professor Young's classroom teachings in drafting & design. While still a large percentage of other graduates through Professor Young's influence and encouragement have continued on to pursue 4 year degrees in architecture, engineering and other graphic related fields of study at major universities. Within the coming years, Mr. Young intends to continue working as a professor at Coastal Bend College until his eventual retirement.
