Now retired Mr. O'Con had spent over fifteen years in the metal fabrication industry before entering the educational field in 1970 as a welding instructor with The Board of Cooperative Educational Services (B.O.C.E.S.) in Patchoque, NY. During his twenty year tenure he taught welding to secondary high school students, adults and conducted training seminars for several industrial firms on Long Island. He was also awarded "Master Teacher" status in 1982 while at B.O.C.E.S. During that time, he was an active member of the Suffolk County Vocational Teachers Association and The American Welding Society. Mr. O'Con is a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953.
In order to prepare for his professional path Mr. O'Con attended Manhattan Community College and The New York Institute of Technology, finally obtaining a Master's Degree in Special Education and Counseling at Stony Brook University. Additionally Mr. O'Con's technical writings have been published by Prentice-Hall, The Industrial Press of New York, and The Fabricated Metals Association. In 1999 "The Fabricator", the professional journal of that organization, awarded Mr. O'Con for the "Best Technical Article" of that year.
