After earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Studies from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1975, Mr. Joseph obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Troy State University in 1983. He began his career in the United States Marine Corps in 1975 and retired as a Colonel in 2004. During one of his active-duty tours in the Marine Corps (1982-1984), then Captain Joseph, was selected as a KC-130 Demonstration Pilot for the United States Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron (the Blue Angels). In 1986, Colonel Joseph (then Major), left the active-duty Marine Corps, and served as a First Officer, Captain, and Instructor Pilot for USAirways until retiring in 2006.
Upon retiring from USAirways, Mr. Joseph was selected as the Flight Services Section Director for the Texas Department of Transportation. From 2006 to 2019, he also concurrently held the positions of the Deputy Director of Aviation, and Chief Pilot for the State of Texas' flight department, under the Texas Department of Transportation.
As a formally trained Aviation Safety Officer and Accident Investigator (United States Naval Post-Graduate School) he has been involved in aviation safety and accident investigation since 1982. Because of this expertise, he has owned and operated Joseph Aviation Consulting since 1991 serving as an independent aviation consultant. As part of his aviation safety credentialling, he is a certified International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Operations Management and Fixed-Wing auditor.
During his career as an aviator, he has flown nearly 30,000 accident-free flight hours in more than 85 models of aircraft. He holds and Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with four type ratings and has been a Certified Flight Instructor since 1974.
In addition to his impressive career, Mr. Joseph also authored numerous aviation and tactical safety articles and received numerous meritorious commendations during his career in the United States Marine Corps. He is a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI), the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), the National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA), the International Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), the Partnership for Corporate Aviation Training (PCAT), the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Flight Safety Foundation, and the Blue Angels Alumni Association.
