BRICK, NJ, November 29, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jim Kelly has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For the past 15 years, Mr. Kelly has been affiliated with the Brick Township Police Department in New Jersey. Beginning his career in public service as a police officer, he was later promoted to the post of police sergeant. In 2018, he served as a community policing supervisor for the aforementioned department. Overseeing a small community policing unit, which includes such programs as Neighborhood Watch, D.A.R.E. and Not Even Once, as well as several other programs that he and his colleagues have formed, including a mentorship program for at-risk minority youth called T.E.A.M. (Trust Educate Aspire Mentor), Mr. Kelly's unit also assists elderly residents, works with public health professionals to serve people who suffer substance use disorders, and is involved in various other community-wide programs.
Working in collaboration with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Ocean County Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies, Mr. Kelly additionally manages the EMT division, which is comprised of about 50 personnel and serves as the department's public information officer as the primary contact for press and media. Since the pandemic began in 2020, he also accepted an administrative role to better support the community. Besides his commitments as an officer of the law, he was recently selected to help lead an initiative to train law enforcement throughout the state as a train-the-trainer for innovative programs involving use of force, officer wellness and responding to persons in crisis. Mr. Kelly has also been active as a police academy instructor for the Ocean County Police Academy in New Jersey since 2017. In February of 2021, Mr. Kelly received a plaque from the Ocean County Police Academy in recognition for his dedicated service to the law enforcement community.
Prior to his commitments in public service, Mr. Kelly worked for Coca-Cola Enterprises in New Jersey as a truck driver from 2000 to 2004 and for Two Rivers Water Reclamation Authority in New Jersey as a collections system jet/vac truck operator from 2004 to 2006. He also became appointed as worship leader and deacon at Remedy Church in New Jersey in 2012.
A longtime musician, Mr. Kelly learned to play the saxophone in fourth grade and the bass guitar in ninth grade. He subsequently refined his skills in the guitar, trumpet, piano, and drums. Eventually, Mr. Kelly formed his own band, Black Feet, between 1995 and 1999.
Mr. Kelly also became an entrepreneur, establishing his own music business, Dream Entertainment Inc., in 2000, through which he managed and booked local artists. In 2003, he formed Down Beat, Inc. teaching music to middle school students for three successful years. Mr. Kelly notably has three songs that have been copyrighted and registered with the Library of Congress.
Through his community, Mr. Kelly served as a mentor at the Ocean County Achievement Center, which is comprised of several institutions, including Ocean County College and Goodwill's Helms Academy. The aforementioned center offers free services to young adults between the ages of 16 to 24 who are no longer attending school. He was also a guest lecturer at various local institutions on the topics of American literature, criminal justice and political science and a volunteer for the After School Homework Club, with which he was instrumental in helping some of the most impoverished and needy children throughout the neighborhood receive after-school care and instruction. Today, Mr. Kelly remains a member of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness' inter-faith advisory council.
Mr. Kelly graduated from Shore Regional High School in New Jersey in 1994. He later earned an Associate of Arts in liberal arts at Ocean County College, with honors, in 2018. Mr. Kelly is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy with a minor in history at Rutgers University while simultaneously earning his clinical hours for certification as a drug and alcohol counselor. A certified chaplain, Mr. Kelly holds additional certifications in sobriety testing through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police bicycle operations through the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association, methods of instruction through the Ocean County Police Academy and ICS-300 through the Federal Emergency Management Association. In November 2021, Mr. Kelly was recognized by the National Chaplains Association for his leadership and innovation in the community policing model, receiving a Public Service Award.
Mr. Kelly is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Sigma Tau and Alpha Sigma Lambda. He notably created the Janet Thompson Memorial Scholarship Award at a local community college in his mother's honor. The scholarship was designed to help non-traditional students who are both working and raising a family while attending school.
