After earning a Bachelor of Science in education and a lifetime teaching certificate from the University of Central Missouri, Ms. Armstrong obtained a Master of Science in guidance counseling from Missouri State University in 1987. She is also certified through the National Board for Certified Counselors and Missouri's Licensed Professional Counselors. Ms. Armstrong is additionally affiliated with the Missouri Council for Special Education and the Council for Exceptional Children.
Ms. Armstrong has proudly served as a director and autism resource and behavior specialist for Missouri State University since 1991. Likewise, she has been active as the director for Project Access at Missouri State University since 2005. Ms. Armstrong also contributed her wealth of knowledge to "Comfort Corner" for Access Express.
Ms. Armstrong credits her success to her experiences working with knowledgeable, open-minded, caring people. She became involved in her profession when she was teaching a psychology course at Missouri State University, at which point she discovered that the aforementioned university needed another autism resource specialist. Combined with her knowledge about teaching and intensive training about autism, she has excelled in the role for thirty years. In the coming years, Ms. Armstrong hopes to find someone to eventually replace her upon her retirement who is passionate and dedicated to a long-term position within her department.
