While enrolled in dental school, Dr. Cox realized that he had been living with an undiagnosed visual impairment. As a result, he decided to shift his professional path and study optometry. Dr. Cox obtained a bachelor's degree in biology from Oklahoma City University in 2003 and a Doctor of Optometry, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2010.
He is certified by the Texas Optometry Board. He was likewise appointed as a Carl Zeiss vision fellow with the American Academy of Optometry Foundation in 2009. Since 2012, Dr. Cox has found success as the owner and optometrist at Spring Eye Care.

He fondly recalls having a case report on a vision-impaired baseball player published in a scientific journal. He is proud of having been able to diagnose visual problems in young patients so that they are able to make life-changing improvements.
