An accomplished listee, Victoria Chick celebrates many years' experience as a professional artist and as a teacher at academic institutions. Ms. Chick's involvement in civic cultural activities has been noted for leadership qualities. She has earned academic credentials and presented solo exhibitions in galleries and museums. Specializing in painting and printmaking since 1973, she is a visual artist to the present time. Early in her teaching career she taught studio art and art history as an instructor at Maple Woods College in Missouri and Johnson County Community College in Kansas. On moving to California in 1989 she served as lecturer in the Art History Department of the University of San Diego. Later, she joined the Art Department at Palomar College where she taught painting, life drawing, and art history. Ms. Chick maintained involvement as an instructor of studio and art history at Palomar College for thirteen years before retiring from academic life. Presently, she works as a writer and art expert for the Big Blend magazines and radio program. Although considering herself a studio artist, art history is a study she has enjoyed since her college days. She maintains this interest, even after retirement, by passing her knowledge on to others through lectures for the Western Institute for Life Long Learning and through her involvement with Big Blend Magazines and radio interviews on art topics. Her early inclusion in juried shows and award recognition has been supplanted by solo exhibitions of her mature style where a body of her work can show the thought processes developing the visual narrative. She has acted as a juror for multiple art exhibitions and served on the board of directors for the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild. Now residing in southwest New Mexico, Victoria Chick is the founding member of the Southwest Regional Museum of Art and Art Center to which she and her husband, Michael Dowd, have established an endowment fund.
An art collector since early 1970, she has specialized in American artists from 1875 to the present time.
Ms. Chick initially pursued a formal education at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In 1970, she earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Kent State University. She attributes much of her success to the support of her family, as well as the mentors under which she learned. Ms. Chick considers daily work in the studio to be critical to creative endeavor.
