For more than 35 years, Dr. Boykin thrived as a physician with specialties in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. Prior to his retirement in 2019, he served as the Team Lead for the Pediatrics Department of the Kaiser Permanente Manassas Medical Center. Dr. Boykin worked as a Staff Pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente for over a decade while developing a reputation as a passionate advocate for Medicaid expansion throughout Northern Virginia.
Alongside his responsibilities as a physician, Dr. Boykin found further success as a board member for the Pediatric Primary Care Project in Woodbridge, Virginia, from 2009 to 2015. Through his previous position at Kaiser Permanente Reston and Burke Centers, he contributed to the Medical Care of Children Project in Fairfax County as a member of the Operations Committee from 1998 to 2005. Dr. Boykin currently maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Pediatricsas a Fellow, the National Medical Association, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
In recognition of his myriad achievements in the field of pediatrics, Dr. Boykin was honored with the Founder's Award from Omega Psi Phi in 2021 and was distinguished as a Top Doctor by Northern Virginia Magazine for six consecutive years from 2011 to 2017. Additionally, he was recognized as a Top Pediatrician by Virginia Living Magazine in 2018, received a 10-Year Service Award from Inova Fairfax Hospital, and earned a 20-Year Service Award from the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group.
Dr. Boykin attributes a great deal of his success to his determination, which has enabled him to complete a medical degree in just three years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Hampton Institute, now Hampton University, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, which he received in 1985. Thereafter, he completed a combined residency in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the Children's Hospital and Medical Center of Akron and Akron General Medical Center. He became board certified in Pediatrics in 1991.
In the near future, Dr. Boykin intends to pursue opportunities to serve as a part-time lecturer at a medical school and provide mentorship for aspiring doctors and nurses.
