BROOKHAVEN, NY, December 09, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gregory Manchess has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Manchess serves as the owner of Manchess Fine Art Ltd. in New York. Freelancing for more than 40 years, his artwork has been seen on book covers and on such prominent magazines as National Geographic, Time and the Smithsonian. Likewise, it has appeared on postage stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. Additionally, Mr. Manchess has been contracted for numerous company advertising campaigns and for the film industry.
As an extension of his work, Mr. Manchess is an instructor for Smarter ArtSchool. Teaching twice per week for three to four hours at a time. He has also worked as a lecturer at various institutions throughout the country, as well as many painting workshops at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and taught alongside eight other instructors at the Illustration Master Class in Amherst, Massachusetts. To further enhance his career, Mr. Manchess attends conventions that focus on painting, illustration, commercial art and conceptual design.
Mr. Manchess' portfolio of work has included representation in the 2001 book, titled "The Illustrator in America, 1860-2000" by Walt Reed. The book serves as a reference of 650 artists that dates from the Civil War through the 20th century. Mr. Manchess' paintings were also selected as part of the storytelling for "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" a 2018 film by the Coen Brothers.
An alumnus of Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Mr. Manchess received a bachelor's degree in 1977. Among his many accomplishments, he was most honored to create NASA mission patches for various Dragon Crews that launched to the International Space Station. Additionally, Mr. Manchess' illustrations will be appearing in several upcoming books, including "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway, "Frozen Hell" by John W. Campbell, and "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.
Participating in numerous annual shows hosted by the Society of Illustrators, Mr. Manchess recently celebrated a one-man show at the Norman Rockwell Museum in 2018, which was based on his book, "Above the Timberline." The show included approximately 40 of his large-scale paintings. The book was published through Simon and Schuster/Saga Press and was notably inspired by a painting he completed on-camera for a how-to video of his work. The book was later adapted for a play that was shown at the Northern Michigan University's Forest Roberts Theater in 2021. The play was chosen as a finalist in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Mr. Manchess is a professional member of the Society of Illustrators and the National Museum of American Illustration. He received both the prestigious Hamilton King Award and Stephan Dohanos Award from the Society of Illustrators in 1999 and 2000, respectively. He has also consistently been recognized for his contributions in the field with awards from Communication Arts Magazine every year since 1995, and won a multitude of Best-in-Show, Silver, and Gold Medals from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles annual shows.
