An up-and-coming public servant, Mr. Akaydin began his career as a Military Intelligence professional from 2009-2012. In support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he helped his division oversee a broad range of intelligence efforts while stationed in the eastern quadrant of Afghanistan. Upon completion of his active-duty service, Murat transitioned to the New York Army National Guard as he began his university education and his transition into project management. After a short stint as an IT Project Management consultant on Wall Street, and completion of his BBA in IT Management, Mr. Akaydin was determined that his future was in public service.
Mr. Akaydin began his public service as an NYC Civic Innovation Fellow while pursuing his MPA in Public Policy & Administration. He worked as a technology integration and project management consultant, supporting local government agencies in improving their performance by incorporating innovative civic technologies and improving process workflows. He played a key role in supporting Community Boards as they transitioned to remote operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was recognized by the District Manager, Board Chair, and the Manhattan Borough President. In his most recent role, Mr. Akaydin has supported the adoption of Ranked-Choice Voting and the publication of voter guides across NYC, during the largest local election in recent history. Mr. Akaydin also harbors a deep passion for volunteerism and currently excels as the chairman of the board of directors for Generation Vote Education Fund, Inc.
In recognition of his dedication to community service, Mr. Akaydin has previously been selected for the President's Volunteer Service Award. He has additionally received a host of accolades in honor of his military service, such as the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and NATO Medal. He attributes a great deal of his success to the influence of his mother, who taught him the importance of education and helping others. In the coming years, Mr. Akaydin intends to continue advocating for good government practices and voting rights.
