A renowned neurologist and educator, Dr. Joseph first earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and continued his education by obtaining a Doctor of Medicine from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1977. He thereupon served two years of internal medicine residency and three years of neurology residency with the University of Virginia and went on to provide superior care practicing general neurology, neurophysiology, and neuroimaging with Neurology Associates of Lynchburg for more than 30 years.
Since 2014, Dr. Joseph has prospered as an associate professor of neurology with Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, where he teaches courses in geriatrics and end of life, hematology/oncology, internal medicine II, nephrology, neurology, osteopathic manipulative medicine, patient-centered and population-based medicine, pulmonary and urinary systems. His clinical research interests at Liberty University include validation of physical exam techniques, developing a better approach to chronic pain management utilizing less reliance on pharmacologic measures, and early MRI changes in neurodegenerative disease.
Dr. Joseph's professional memberships include the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine (LAM), as well as the medical staff of Lynchburg General Hospital and the Virginia Neurologic Society (VNS). He is certified as a neurologist by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry and in neuroimaging by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties. In addition, he is the co-author of "Fluid and Electrolytes, Acid Base Disorders for Medical Students and Residents."
Reflecting upon his career, Dr. Joseph attributes his success to his positive personal life, a pleasant community to work within, and the invigoration of being part of the original faculty at Liberty University. He considers his career highlight to be developing his teaching skills after more than 30 years in medical practice, along with his research into early-onset Alzheimer's Disease, which is what he intends to concentrate on in the coming years.
