After a decades-long tenure with the University of Connecticut, Dr. Bell earned the distinguished title of professor emeritus in 2000. He initially began his career in 1956, at which point he was employed by the plastics department of the DuPont Company. Thereafter, Dr. Bell garnered experience as a research engineer at the Chemstrand Research Center Monsanto Chemical Company from 1966 until 1969.
In 1969, Dr. Bell was recruited by the University of Connecticut to serve as an associate professor of chemical engineering. He subsequently performed duties as the director of the polymer science program and a professor at the University of Connecticut. Between 1995 and 2000, he acted as the associate director of the Institute of Materials Science. An expert in the field of chemical engineering, Dr. Bell also provided his expertise as a visiting professor at numerous institutions across the globe, including the Israel Institute of Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Naples and the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry.
Dr. Bell has been invited to speak as a lecturer throughout the course of his career, including as a senior Fulbright lecturer. Likewise, he has contributed over 250 articles and 25 book chapters on the topic of polymer science to professional publications. As a testament to his renown, Dr. Bell has been presented with numerous accolades, including the key to the city of Mulhouse, France. He has been further distinguished as a Lady Davis Fellow and with a fellowship to the German Academy of Exchange Service.
To remain aware of advancements in his field, Dr. Bell has been involved with the Society of Plastics Engineers, the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Additionally, he has served as the president for the Adhesion Society. Civically, Dr. Bell participates as a church elder and Bible schoolteacher for the Institute for Studies and Biblical Education. He has been a member of the executive committee of the University of Connecticut chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
Having been born into a family with many ties to the field of chemistry, Dr. Bell initially pursued a formal education at Lehigh University in 1956. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, he went on the earn a Doctor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1966.
