BETHESDA, MD, December 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Constance "Connie" Albanese Morella with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Morella celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Morella began her career in education teaching for the Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland in 1956. She later taught courses at both American University from 1968 until 1970 and was a professor at Montgomery College between 1970 and 1985. Ms. Morella subsequently began a successful career in politics as a founding member of the Montgomery County Commission for Women in 1971, after which she served as the president two years later. Shortly thereafter, she joined the League of Women Voters. Ms. Morella went on to serve for eight years in the Maryland House of Delegates in Annapolis between 1979 and 1986, followed by another 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Maryland's eighth district until 2003.

During her tenure in congress, Ms. Morella implemented legislation regarding domestic violence, child support, environmental protection, healthcare reform and human rights. She also established several beneficial programs for senior citizens. In addition, Ms. Morella served as the U.S. permanent representative to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris from 2003 to 2007 with Ambassadorial Status and, in 2010, was appointed to the American Battle Monuments Commission by President Barack Obama. In 2003, Ms. Morella had the opportunity to serve as a visiting fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. More recently, she began serving on American University's faculty as an ambassador in residence for the Women and Politics Institute.

Inspired by her husband, Anthony C. Morella, a Republican who worked for several liberal Republicans during his political career, Ms. Morella also looked to such individuals as Margaret Chase Smith who served in congress. Among her many accomplishments, she encouraged many women to enter public service. Ms. Morella was notably the only woman in the state of Maryland to serve in both the state legislature and in congress.

Ms. Morella was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, and graduated from Somerville High School in 1948. She subsequently studied at Boston University, where she acquired an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in 1950 and 1954, respectively. Ms. Morella also earned a Master of Arts from American University in 1967.

Selected as the Glamour Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine in 1995, Ms. Morella was also named to the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame in 1994 and was named Washingtonian of the Year in 1991. Additionally, she was honored with a Legion of Merit from the Republic of Italy, a Humbert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award at the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and received the Order of the Rising Sun Award from the Emperor of Japan in 2016.
