AMES, IA, December 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jonathan P. Mochel has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Mochel serves as an associate professor in the department of biomedical sciences at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Recruited in 2016, he teaches various pharmacology courses, conducts research on stem cells and clinical pharmacology, where he also mentors 12 individuals, and serves on various university committees. This year, Dr. Mochel applied early to advance to become a full professor and exert more of an impact on his field.
Aside from his contributions at the university, Dr. Mochel chaired the Education and Residency Committee of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT). He is also the co-founder of LifEngine Animal Health, a Y Combinator company and venture with the Mayo Clinic that focuses on developing therapeutic drugs for curing cancer in dogs and humans. Furthermore, Dr. Mochel contributes to 3D Health Solutions, a business that specializes in streamlining screenings for the early determination of a drug's success in the market.
Prior to joining Iowa State University, Dr. Mochel worked as a senior pharmacology modeler for the Department of Modeling and Simulation for Novartis Pharma in Basel, Switzerland, from 2013 to 2015. He was subsequently named as a quantitative systems pharmacology leader for the Roche Innovation Center in Basel from 2015 to 2016. An expert in pharmacology, mathematics, and veterinary medicine, Dr. Mochel has conducted extensive studies regarding the analysis of clinical data obtained from spontaneous animal models of human diseases. Since joining the university in 2016, he also established a new and sustainable research program that includes computational approaches and novel cell culture systems for translational research. Aspiring to introduce new methods, including artificial intelligence to optimize research in the animal health field, Dr. Mochel also hopes to focus more on humans, specifically in biomedical competitive research.
Widely published in his field, Dr. Mochel has written numerous grants and contributed over 100 peer-reviewed publications to various biomedical scholarly journals, including in Reviews of Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, Medicinal Research Reviews, BMC Biology, Frontiers in Pharmacology and Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. He has also been an ad hoc study section reviewer for the U.S. National Science Foundation, the U.K. Medical Research Council and the CNRS/INSERM ATIP-Avenir Program.
Highly educated, Dr. Mochel received a veterinary medicine degree as the valedictorian of his class at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse in France in 2006 and a Master of Pharmacology at Paul Sabatier University in France in 2006. He also completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a clinical internship at the Alfort Veterinary School at Paris 12 Val de Marne University in 2007 before returning to Paul Sabatier University to earn a Master of Science in clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics as the valedictorian of his class in 2009. Dr. Mochel subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in quantitative systems pharmacology at Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2015. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include a certificate in nutrition at Ecole Nationale Veterinaire de Toulouse in 2006, several medical, surgical and pharmacometrics internships, and a residency in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology at the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2013. Dr. Mochel is also a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
To support his career in medicine, Dr. Mochel has been active with a multitude of industry organizations, including the International Society of Pharmacometrics, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the American Gastroenterology Association. He was also elected as a fellow and councilor of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and was the founding president of the Animal Health Modeling and Simulation Society. Additionally, among other affiliations, Dr. Mochel was an executive board member of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Celebrating his achievements, Dr. Mochel was recently honored with a 2021 Iowa Biotechnology Association Award. In 2020, he received a CVM International Service Award from Iowa State University, an Iowa State Exemplary Faculty Mentor Award and a John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Venture Competition Award. Additionally, Dr. Mochel was recognized with an Iowa State CVM Award for Early Career Achievement in Research in 2019 and a Silver Medal for Outstanding Veterinary Thesis from the Alfort Veterinary School in 2007.
