After a successful 40-year tenure in social services, Dr. Lynda retired from her career and established Jazzy Ladies Jewels Boutique in Chicago in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the sole owner and operator, she is responsible for the design and development of her retail-clothing store, as well as marketing, funding, merchandise, inventory and bookkeeping with the assistance of her accountant with Position for Success. Dr. Lynda also focuses on providing excellent customer service and developing relationships with other business leaders in the area. Notably, she successfully collaborated with several community stakeholders, which enabled her to hire and train employees who live with disabilities.
After retiring from social services, Dr. Lynda has been teaching as an adjunct professor at Illinois State University. She also continues to serve as an Executive Pastor at Harmony Community Church preaching, teaching, evangelism, a ministry in action in the North Lawndale community. A prolific presence in community affairs, she participates in various local events through her boutique, including fundraisers to supply winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves and toys for needy children during the holidays. During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, she also distributed personal protective equipment to individuals and families residing in homeless shelters. Dr. Lynda also supports her career in entrepreneurship as a member of her local Morgan Park/Evergreen Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
After a long battle with substance abuse and rehabilitation, Dr. Lynda returned to college and earned a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from Chicago State University. In addition to her undergraduate degree from Illinois State University, she holds a Doctor of Divinity (DDiv) from the Gospel Ministry Outreach Evangelical (GMORE) Theological Institute in Northwest Indiana earned in 2005. To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Lynda maintains her membership with the National Association of Social Workers.
Highlighting her accomplishments as an African American businesswoman, Dr. Lynda was featured in an article in the Chicago Tribune Newspaper in March 2021 and on the Fox News Morning Show in Chicago in April 2021. Dr. Lynda has recently partnered with her sister and opened Bryn and Lyn's Unique Boutique in Houston, TX also in 2021. Dr. Lynda enjoys spending time with her husband, Randell McClendon of 24 years and her daughter Christian Swan McClendon.
