Prior to her recruitment with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Opera, Dr. Schmidt earned a Master of Music in choral conducting from California State University, Los Angeles. She had previously worked as a teacher of visual arts in adult education. Dr. Schmidt originally began her career as a linguist after obtaining a doctorate in German language and literature, with a focus on linguistics, and a minor in musicology.
Alongside her responsibilities as a chorus master and ensemble leader, Dr. Schmidt has recently excelled as a mathematics tutor and enrichment teacher, yoga teacher and cheerleading coach. In the coming years, she aims to add to her career her passions for mathematics and dance. In addition to choreographing and performing as a dancer, Dr. Schmidt intends to pursue opportunities to teach both of the aforementioned disciplines.
