MARYVILLE, TN, January 04, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Suzanne Costner has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in classics, classical languages, literature and linguistics from the University of Tennessee in 1987, Ms. Costner graduated with an Associate of Science in early childhood education and teaching from Northern Virginia Community College in 1992. She later continued her academic efforts at the University of Tennessee, earning a master's degree in elementary curriculum and instruction in 1997 and a master's degree in library and information science in 2008. Ms. Costner later garnered her "Copyright for Educators & Librarians" certification from Coursera in 2014.
Ms. Costner notably taught elementary school from 1997 - 2008 at Lenoir City Elementary and then Montvale Elementary. She then moved to Fairview Elementary School as their librarian in 2008 when she completed her library science degree. She has excelled as a school library media specialist in the years since. She has been additionally affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English, where she served on the Orbis Pictus Award committee from 2019 – 2021; the American Library Association; and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, for which she was appointed as a committee chair. Ms. Costner has also contributed to the aforementioned institute by writing and publishing aerospace education lessons.
In 2006, Ms. Costner became the first librarian to receive the Tennessee Outstanding Educator Award. She was likewise presented with the Excellence in Teaching Award from the East Tennessee Historical Society in 2015 and the National Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award from the Civil Air Patrol in 2017. She credits her success to her abilities as a good reader, researcher and communicator. In the coming years, Ms. Costner hopes to continue her work as a librarian while building the STEM program at Fairview Elementary School and preparing for her eventual retirement.
