Ms. Burdette previously served as the regional director for the American Heart Association in Greenville, South Carolina, from 1997 to 2002. She also contributed to health education for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control in Anderson between 1992 and 1997 and held various roles with Clemson Little Theatre in Clemson, South Carolina, and Keep American Beautiful in Anderson County, South Carolina. Additionally, Ms. Burdette spent six years with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism in Fair Play as a travel information coordinator from 1983 until 1989.
To further support her community, Ms. Burdette is a past chair of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Municipal Association of South Carolina and a Past District Governor with Rotary Intel11ational. She also served as chair of the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations, she serves on the board of the Spartanburg Methodist College, the Anderson Oconee Pickens Mental Health Center, and AdvanceSC (a fund of Duke Energy Corporation). Other contributions to her credit have included chairing the Blue Ridge cluster of the YMCA, serving as the campaign chair for the Foothills United Way in Anderson, and devoting a decade on the town council for the Town of Pendleton, South Carolina, between 1987 and 1997, followed by another 12 years as mayor until 2009. Ms. Burdette also volunteers her time at her local church and to other nonprofit organizations that support mental health, educational opportunities and the needy.
Ms. Burdette earned an Associate of Arts at Tomlinson College. Continuing her studies, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Southel11 Wesleyan University (formerly Central Wesleyan College). Well regarded for her subsequent career accomplishments, Ms. Burdette received the Order of the Palmetto in 2021, which is South Carolina's highest civilian award. She also received a Service Above Self Award from Rotary Intel11ational and the Pointing the Way Award from the local newspaper in 2006. Other honors include an Athena Award, a Hometown Community Leader Award from the National Association of Towns & Wal-Mart in Anderson, a Chairman's Award from the United Way of Anderson, and a Service to Mankind Award from the Anderson Sertoma Club. Furthermore, Ms. Burdette was named as the Woman of the Year by Anderson Business and Professional Women.
