YOUNGTOWN, AZ, January 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Anna Louise Dries Greenmun with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Greenmun celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Now retired, Ms. Greenmun was best known for her work as the president and co-founder of Garden Park Enterprises Inc. between 1973 and 1989. The program was established in collaboration with her husband, Gil Greenmun, to function as a workshop to support people living with Down syndrome, including their daughter, Stephanie, and provide long-term employment and stability past high school. At the time, handicapped individuals were regarded as incapable of working in the community and, consequently, were not trained or prepared for the future. Mr. and Mrs. Greenmun throughout believed otherwise, that, although limited, these children could learn to become productive in their community.
After its inception, the program grew from working at a dining room table with just 12 students between the ages of 18 and 21 to finding more room to work at the Garden Park School. Over time, the program expanded to close to 30 adults throughout the community and over 60 students. The program's success later included the formation of a board of directors and the purchase of an abandoned furniture store for a permanent space. Ms. Greenmun took on the role of a supervisor, through which she was responsible for obtaining national certification as a sheltered employment for mentally handicapped adults. During her tenure, she also served as the president for three terms between 1978 and 1981, while her husband functioned as the board president from 1974 to 1975. Ultimately, Garden Park Enterprises Inc. acquired 27 diversified board members before it was sold to another local sheltered workshop with similar programs.
Prior to forming Garden Park Enterprises Inc., Ms. Greenmun spent four years in the health care field as a medical technician. She also worked as a plant science technician at Cornell University, where she conducted scientific research between 1959 and 1963, which was supported by a National Institute of Health grant. During this time, Ms. Greenmun was responsible for the discovery of the Barley Yellow Dwarf virus and the Tobacco Mosaic virus under the supervision of Drs. Rochow and Ross.
Volunteering her time to various causes over the years, Ms. Greenmun has contributed to numerous charities. Throughout the course of her career, she often drew inspiration from her husband, who was also deeply invested in volunteer work. Ms. Greenmun holds an Associate of Science in medical technology. Becoming a talented poet in recent years, she was recognized by Eber & Wein, a veteran-owned-and-operated publisher in Pennsylvania in its Best Poets List on multiple occasions. The publisher also highlighted her in the 2008 edition of Who's Who in American Poetry. That same year, Ms. Greenmun was honored to receive an Editor's Choice Award from the International Library of Poetry.
