LAKE HIAWATHA, NJ, January 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laura Ann McCluskey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Ms. McCluskey enjoyed a wonderful career in education for 32 years before retiring in June 2019. Accepting a teaching position with Parsippany-Troy Hills School District in Parsippany, New Jersey in 1990, she taught environmental science, biology, chemistry and ESL Science to grades 7 through 12 at several of the schools. During her tenure, she also contributed to the science curriculum, which is still being implemented throughout the district to this day. Additionally, Ms. McCluskey participated in presentations at the National and New Jersey Science Teachers Conventions.
Passionate about teaching the next generation to understand the science of the environment, Ms. McCluskey believes that knowledge leads to action. Learning about volcanoes, the atmosphere, the ocean and climate change is essential in acting on behalf of the planet and she hopes that her work in education will inspire future leaders to become more involved.
Prior to establishing herself in education, Ms. McCluskey worked as a quality control chemist for Glidden Coatings and Resins in San Francisco between 1982 and 1984. In this capacity, she conducted quality control testing on products, monitored raw materials in the plant and the warehouse, and reported directly to the California Environmental Protection Agency on plant air quality. Ms. McCluskey was also recruited as an outdoor naturalist for the Weiss Ecology Center in Waneque, New Jersey, conducting tours and teaching ecology classes between 1984 and 1986.
She also remains active in education as the chairperson of the Par-Troy Hills Environmental Advisory Committee since 1988 and recently accepted the role of the program director and serves on the board for the Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education. Ms. McCluskey is also a local member of the Sierra Club.
In years past, Ms. McCluskey was instrumental as a designer and presenter of science and education workshops for teachers between 1991 and 2019. She found further success as the director of programming for the Wide World of Summer between 1994 and 2001. Ms. McCluskey credits her supervisor, Dr. James Simes, with helping her develop her teaching skills.
Ms. McCluskey earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental science at William Patterson University in 1982 and a Master of Arts in environmental education at Montclair State University in 1990. She notably obtained a curriculum development and supervisor certification from Caldwell College between 1989 and 1990 and an ecology environmental steward certification from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey between 2018 and 2019.
Ms. McCluskey was notably presented with a Teacher's Recognition Program Award from the Governor of New Jersey in 1990. She was later recognized as High School Teacher of the Year by the Parsippany Rotary in 2007. Moreover, Ms. McCluskey was honored with the Patricia F. Kane Lifetime Achievement Award in Environmental Education in 2019.
Ms. McCluskey's daughter Jennifer is founder of Better Civics of Philadelphia. Her son-in-law Tivoni and granddaughter Ava live in Philadelphia as well.
