Dr. Durham earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and went on to attain a Master of Education in Teaching and Curriculum from Pennsylvania State University in 2006. To further her expertise, she later obtained a Doctor of Education from Gwynedd Mercy University in 2021. Well qualified in her field, Dr. Durham is certified as a reading specialist and in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Dr. Durham currently works as an educational consultant for the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network, while also teaching as an adjunct professor at Gwynedd Mercy University. In this capacity, she is responsible for teaching evidence-aligned instructional methodologies in literacy and mathematics. Dr. Durham also works to enhance school systems through collaborative efforts with district and school-level teams. This work entails meeting with leadership in addition to practitioners to review district/school/class data and offer system level improvements for optimal outcomes.
Dr. Durham is dedicated to ensuring that all students, no matter their skill level, have access to evidence-aligned instruction. As part of her commitment to this philosophy, she is affiliated with several educational institutions, including the International Dyslexia Association, the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading, the Global Implementation Network, the Reading League and the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators. In recognition for her hard work and dedication, Dr. Durham was bestowed with an award for her commitment to excellence in education by the United States Army War College in 2015. She has also received an Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Durham's goal is to advance to a professorship in order to help educate other preservice teachers on best classroom practices. In this capacity, she looks forward to helping educators sharpen their knowledge of evidence-based practices and how they are implemented. In this respect, Dr. Durham hopes to inspire them to help shepherd their students to success in the fields of reading and mathematics.
