During her academic tenure, Megan L. Pilarcik redesigned the statistics course in order to help students, sometimes for the first time, find success in mathematics.

Ms. Pilarcik has excelled as an educator at South Western High School for more than 15 years, specializing in mathematics and statistics. During her academic tenure, she redesigned the statistics course in order to help students, sometimes for the first time, find success in mathematics. She was able to transform it into a project-based course, which both engages and meets student needs. As one of the main projects for the course, the students host a carnival where students design games and practice skills such as theoretical probability, expected value and date collection.
Ms. Pilarcik considers herself to be an analytical problem-solver, thinker and leader. She has also always had a natural ability for mathematics, which has allowed her to become an accomplished teacher in the subject. Ms. Pilarcik lets her faith guide knowing that the many blessings God has given her are to be used to honor and glorify Him.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Pilarcik has traveled on various mission trips through her church. She also volunteers with Gettysburg CARES as well as a softball coach. Ms. Pilarcik was previously recognized as the Softball Coach of the Year.
As a respected voice in her discipline, Ms. Pilarcik has presented at two conferences at the Hershey Convention Center. She currently maintains her professional affiliation with South Western High School and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Looking toward the future, she plans to share more about her class and her work in the field.
