SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO, January 20, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Domingo Marqués-Reyes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Marqués-Reyes initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, in 2001. He continued his education with a doctorate in clinical psychology from Ponce Health Sciences University in 2006. Dr. Marqués-Reyes subsequently served as a clinical psychologist and an adjunct faculty member with the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico from 2006 to 2011 and Red Metropolitana de Psicología from 2006 to 2017.
Dr. Marqués-Reyes has excelled as an associate professor of clinical psychology at the Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico since 2015. He has been additionally active with Wise Mind: Psychology, Health and Wellbeing Clinic as a clinical psychologist since 2017. In this position, Dr. Marqués-Reyes conducts research on a dialectical behavioral therapy program, which serves as a practicum for doctoral interns and students that he supervises at the aforementioned university.
From 2009 to 2015, Dr. Marqués-Reyes worked as an assistant professor at Ponce Health Sciences University. He has further refined his skills as a clinical supervisor, lecturer and researcher on suicide, trauma, natural disasters, mental health stigma, and borderline personality disorders. Moreover, Dr. Marqués-Reyes has contributed as a member of various committees with the Puerto Rico Psychology Association as well as the vice President of the Mexico and Central America divisions and a national representative of Puerto Rico in the Interamerican Psychological Society.
Dr. Marqués-Reyes is the co-author of "Mortality in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria,' in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2013. Likewise, he was recruited as an editorial board member for three psychology journals as well as the editor of Chiron's Catharsis: Journal of psychology. Featured in an award-winning documentary for his 2018 mortality study, Dr. Marqués-Reyes has been interviewed in various news publications and magazines including the New York Times and National Geographic.
Dr. Marqués-Reyes has been honored as the Psychologist of the Year by the Puerto Rico Psychology Association in 2018 as well as with the Mentor of the Year Award in 2015. He was additionally celebrated by the Behavioral Sciences Journal as Researcher of the Year Award in 2018. Also, Ponce Health Sciences University recognized him as Professor of the Year in 2013 and with the Distinguished Student Award in 2006. For his impact on higher education, Albizu University chose Dr. Marqués-Reyes as Distinguished Professor in 2018. As a career highlight, Dr. Marqués-Reyes cites the large mortality study that he conducted with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health that received attention in The New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Marqués-Reyes initially pursued a career in clinical psychology because it would be a profession that would provide him with varying challenges or tasks every day. In the coming years, he plans on advancing to the position of professor at his present university. Moreover, Dr. Marqués-Reyes hopes to address the need for more research work in his field, including those related to suicides in families.
