Dr. Jacobson obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from North Texas State University and a Master of Science from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. At UTGSBS she worked with the renowned Dr. Clark Griffen, a founder of the theory of chemical carcinogenesis. She was awarded a predoctoral Welch Grant Scholarship and worked as a graduate research assistant at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Jacobson began her career in academia working in the Biochemistry department at University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). She performed cutting edge research focused on Poly-ADP Ribosylation with the pioneers of the field, Drs. Myron and Elaine Jacobson.
Dr. Jacobson found much success as a scientist when she moved to industry to work at Alcon Research Laboratories. Her research was focused on molecular targets for Glaucoma Therapy. While at Alcon, Dr. Jacobson had the privilege of working on her doctorate degree through a generous program at Alcon and UNTHSC which allowed her to continue working on Glaucoma therapeutic targets at Alcon while doing research and taking classes toward her PhD. Her PhD research focused on the first glaucoma gene identified, MYOC. She was awarded Top Scientist award for R&D, a prestigious recognition at Alcon. Getting her degree later in life than most PhD scientists allowed her to take on roles of increasing responsibilities at Alcon, which later became Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research.
Dr. Jacobson was recruited to Smith & Nephew as a scientific advisor to work on a cell-based therapy for wound healing and excelled as Sr. Director of Biologics R&D. As Senior Director she supported the wound franchise with collaborations with Universities, screening new technology in the wound space, and supporting research in wound therapy and biologics. Dr. Jacobson's research has led to programs for new drug development and support for continuing pipeline for S&N. Most recently she has helped start a biologics program at S&N as Head of the Research, Technology and Innovation group to support Wound, Sports Medicine and Orthopedics franchises. Dr. Jacobson was awarded a Technical Excellence Award this year by S+N for her successful research in the area of wound debridement.
Dr. Jacobson will transition from industry to a consultant role and continue to support new products progress through clinical trials and get to market to help patients.
