SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, January 24, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Laura Appell-Warren has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Inspired by her parents, who were both anthropologists, as well as her five years in a small isolated community in Borneo, Dr. Appell-Warren began her professional career as a field researcher conducting anthropological fieldwork among the Bulusu on the Sekatak River in East Kalimantan. While conducting her research, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College, from which she graduated in 1983. Dr. Appell-Warren subsequently worked as a house head and teacher specializing in social sciences, introductory psychology and anthropology at The Milton Academy.
Between 2007 and 2012, Dr. Appell-Warren was active at St. Mark's School in several different roles, including an anthropology teacher and a religion teacher specializing in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Drawing upon her considerable knowledge, she currently excels with St. Mark's School as the director of the School's Global Citizenship Institute, the director of global citizenship programs and a history and social sciences department faculty member. Alongside her primary responsibilities with St. Mark's School, Dr. Appell-Warren serves as the co-chairperson of the Firebird Foundation for Anthropological Research Fellowship Committee, a member of the board of directors for Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, a secretary for the Global Education Benchmark Group's board of directors and the president of the Borneo Research Council.
Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Appell-Warren has contributed to numerous publications, including "The Tarakan Dialect of the Tudung Language of East Kalimantan," "The Iban Diaries of Monica Freeman," "Child's Play: Myth, Mimesis and Make Believe," "Personhood: An Examination of the History and Use of an Anthropological Concept," and "The Social Construction of Personhood among the Rungus of Sabah, Malaysia," which will be released soon. An expert in her field, she holds a master's degree in cross-cultural human development and an EdD in anthropology and psychology from Harvard University. Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Appell-Warren is affiliated with the Chewonki Foundation.
In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Appell-Warren was presented with an Award for a Student Paper Prize for the play "The Development of Kakada and Social Change Among the Bulusu of East Kalimantan," which was published through the Association for the Anthropological Study of Play. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, she is incredibly proud of being on the board of the international organization called the Global Education Benchmark Group, which supports schools nationally and internationally.
