Backed by more than two decades of teaching experience, Ms. Walker has provided superior service as an educator of K-12 in Texas and Louisiana. Since 2008, she has prospered as the owner and operator of the Shreveport franchise of LearningRx, a learning improvement program focusing on the underlying skills that are critical for learning and performance, placing clients with their own "brain trainers" for mental workouts consisting of game-like exercises. Notably, her franchise has been the recipient of Shreveport's Small Business of the Year Award, as well as Community Impact, Excellence in Customer Service, Community Impact and Pacesetter Awards. Ms. Walker has spent 21 years as a teacher and reading specialist, two years as a school administrator and seven years as a district reading specialist in Texas, having also served as dean of online programs at Louisiana Baptist University. With the Waskom, Texas Independent School District from 1999 to 2008, she provided superior service as a district reading coordinator and dyslexic specialist, assisting teachers with choosing the right curriculum for teaching reading and understanding reading disabilities, including dyslexia, along with working with students in small groups to succeed in reading.
Ms. Walker earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary and early childhood education with a minor in French and Spanish from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri in 1991. She continued by obtaining a Master of Education in educational administration from Texas A&M in 1993 and followed with a Master of Education as a reading specialist from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1998. Ms. Walker is currently in pursuit of a doctorate in educational and clinical psychology.
Today, Ms. Walker maintains membership with the National Association of Cognitive Trainers and International Dyslexia Association. She is a board-certified Cognitive Specialist by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) and holds a Texas Legacy Teaching Certificate and a Lifetime State Board Educator Certification from the Texas Education Agency. Ms. Walker attributes her success to her deep faith and the support of her husband, family, clients and community contacts. Her goal in the coming years is to open more successful franchises and become more of a known published author as she is an avid writer who has had many articles and one book published.
