SELINSGROVE, PA, January 31, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rachel Ulsh, daughter of Rose (Kerstetter) Weir and Jay Weir (deceased) has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A seasoned educator, Mrs. Ulsh earned a bachelor's degree in music education, Summa Cum Laude, from Susquehanna University in 2009. Subsequently, she worked for the Midd-West School District as a general and choral music teacher for kindergarten through fifth grade students. After a year in that position, she transferred to the Shamokin Area School District and served as a seventh through twelfth grade choral music director and musical director for two years. Mrs. Ulsh also gained valuable expertise as a seventh through twelfth grade Choral Director at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School and kindergarten through sixth grade general and choral music teacher for the Mount Carmel Area School District.
During her tenure with the Mount Carmel Area School District, Mrs. Ulsh earned a master's degree in music education for general and choral music from Kent State University. Just prior to accepting her current position, she taught music to fifth through eighth grade middle school students at Susquenita School District. Drawing on years of professional experience, Mrs. Ulsh has excelled as a choral and musical director for Selinsgrove Area School District since 2016.
In a career that has been filled with highlights, Mrs. Ulsh is proud of all her past and current choruses and choirs. Her advanced choir had the chance to audition to be part of the WorldStrides competition in 2019. Competing against several different choirs from different states, the choir won the Gold Award, the Adjudicator's Award and the Overall Choir Award, which earned them a trip to sing at Carnegie Hall. Mrs. Ulsh places importance on bringing her students to Susquehanna University and other institutions to acquire more experience in and outside the Selinsgrove area in conjunction with performing for judges in Williamsburg, Virginia, Washington D.C. and various other locations. Looking forward, Mrs. Ulsh aims to help her music department excel in music education. She hopes to further advance music education in the Selinsgrove area and beyond. Her future plans include pursuing a second master's degree in choral conducting while continually learning innovative and current ways to teach her students.
Mrs. Ulsh attributes her success first to God for unwavering guidance, love and forgiveness. Second, her mother, Rose, who she describes as an empowered and successful woman, a single mother of three, a leader, counselor, and educator in her own right. Thirdly, her husband, Alex, she describes as her, "rock" while also partnering together to raise two kids and keep God at the center.
Mrs. Ulsh is a member of PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association), NAfME (National Association for Music Education), NEA (National Education Association), PSEA (Pennsylvania State Education Association) and Sigma Alpha Iota (music fraternity).
