Dr. Leiker was inspired to pursue a career in the medical field due to his deep desire to help other people. He earned an Associate Degree in Science from St. Johns River Community College followed by a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of South Florida, where he was on the Dean's List, was a member of the Mortar Board Society and received the Golden Torch Award. Although he initially planned to find a position at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after volunteering at a children's hospital, he discovered that his passion for helping others was leading him towards a career as a physician.
Dr. Leiker subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2018. Soon thereafter, he completed a residency in family medicine at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. Dr. Leiker currently serves as an urgent care attending physician at Plaquemines Medical Center. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine, is a Certified Medical Examiner with the FMCSA, and a NAUI Certified Rescue Diver.
Dr. Leiker is affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians and Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians. For his extensive community service, he was presented with the Richard H. Streiffer, MD Patient Education Award and a Community Service Award. He attributes his success to hard work and motivation, along with the unwavering support of his family, friends and mentors. In the future, Dr. Leiker intends to work in rural areas as a small-town doctor to be able to help communities who struggle to get access to physicians and medical services.
